Twenty-five-year-old actress Gu Hye-sun is at work on her new film Magic [요술] , and has cast her female lead: Seo Hyun-jin, a former pop singer turned actress.
Seo Hyun-jin got her start in 2001 with the SM girl group M.I.L.K, and went on to act in musicals and dramas like Hwang Jini and HIT. She first became friends with Gu back in her singer days, and was featured in Gu’s directorial debut, the short film The Madonna (aka The Cheerful Caretaker).
Magic is Gu Hye-sun’s first feature directorial project, and is set in a music school. Seo plays a genius pianist, and is currently immersed in practicing the instrument. The film will begin filming in mid-January after the male lead is cast.

Park Chan-wook was named the best director of the year by his fellow film directors, who also picked actor Song Kang-ho and actress Kim Hye-ja as the year's best actors.

The 12th Directors' Cut Awards was held at CGV Apgujeong in Seoul on Monday. The winners were selected by votes from 238 directors who are members of the directors' network.

Park's latest film "Thirst" inspired hope in the discouraged Korean cinema community by winning the Jury Prize at the 62nd Cannes International Film Festival this year, the director's group said. "Park's films, which are always fresh and novel, are the most cinematic," it added. It is the fourth time that Park has received the award as he was previously honored for his films "Joint Security Area," "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance," and "Oldboy."

Song won the best actor award for a fifth time, becoming the winningest actor in the history of the Directors' Cut Awards.

The awards for the best rookie actor and actress went to Kim Dong-wook of "Take Off" and Park Bo-young of "Scandal Maker." Korean-French Ounie Lecomte won the best new film director award for "A Brand New Life."

Yang Ik-june, director of "Breathless," received the award for the best independent film, and director Yoon Je-kyoon, who produced and directed the disaster blockbuster "Haeundae," won the award for the best producer. "Haeundae" drew the fourth largest audience in Korean film history.

The directors also awarded a tribute trophy to late actress Jang Jin-young, who died of stomach cancer in September.

Super Junior’s AWOL member, Kim Kibum will be returning to the limelight starting next month. His acting activities for 2010 include a play and a starring role in a movie.
 
Earlier this week the trailer for the movie, “Jumunjin” (주문진) appeared along with a release date of January 21, 2010. Kim Kibum plays a ghost man opposite Hwang Bora. The two had also worked together on the drama “Rainbow Romance” in 2005.
“Jumunjin” was set to be released earlier this year in the summer but was delayed until now. From the trailer, we finally know why Kibum has been holding onto that long hair for so long.

In addition to the movie role, Kibum is also casted in the play “A Nap” (낮잠). The play is a love story about a man who returns to his hometown and meets his first love, who cannot remember him due to Alzheimer’s disease. The Super Junior member will portray the man’s childhood life. Lee Ju-seung was also casted in this childhood role. The man in his old age will be played by Lee Young-ha, Kim Chang-wan, and Oh Kwang-rok.

The play will run from January 26th to March 28th, at the Baekam Art Hall in Samsung-dong, Seoul.

KBS 2TV ‘Entertainment Tonight’ made a caption mistake.

Broadcast on December 26th, ‘Entertainment Tonight’ featured Year-end special questionnaire to select stars of “Top News Maker in Year 2009″.

The members of TVXQ who are currently in legal dispute with their label SM Entertainment were selected by votes as the Top 4 of 2009 News Maker. During the vote process, ‘Entertainment Tonight’ put a caption “Junsu, Changmin, and Yoochun are facing lawsuit against their label company” in introducing the case.

As the problem is, TVXQ members who are actually in lawsuit against SM are Micky Yoochun, Xiah Junsu, and Hero Jaejoong. While Choikang Changmin and U-Know Yunho are the rest members who remain in position with SM. This caption mistake is not a problem that can easily be ignored. Moreover, the news wrote ‘Micky Yoochun’ (‘믹’키유천) as ‘Meiky Yoochun’ (‘미’키유천).

TVXQ fans demanded a correction from ‘Entertainment Tonight’ regarding these mistakes. “If it’s me who get it wrong, it may be okay. But how can you have this kind of mistake?” “Names are sensitive issue in this case, and you get it wrong… it’s ridiculous.” “Just quick correct it and make an apology to TVXQ and their fans.” as the fans accused.

KCM, After School Ga Hee, and Beast Doo Joon have been selected best celebrity body by a fitness trainer

Ga Hee and Doo Joon appeared on a SBS 'Quiz Show' when 'fitness' came up. A fitness trainer appeared who selected 15 people that 'seemed to have a good body' Ranking number one was KCM and the others were 2nd and 3rd.

The rest pretty much agreed with the ranking and were envious of Ga Hee and Doo Joon's figure. Saying 'With these bodies their performances should be good' The ranking for top lifting performer was tenses in the studio and heated up.

The trainer selected 100 celebrity panelists with 'fitness¡'this was lead to a heated discussion. The show will be aired in 27 days.

A Chinese news site has recently put out an article titled "Hangeng has been belittled by SNSD" and caused a stir amongst fans.

The chinese media website sohu.com reported on the 25th that "The reason why Hangeng has left SM entertainment is not only because of the displeasures of his contract and constraining his activities, but he received a wound due to the disrespectfulness towards him by other artists."

Sohu.com also stated "Super Junior member Hangeng filed a lawsuit against SM Entertainment, Hangeng was also hurt in the past by Korea's famous group So Nyeo Shi Dae by their harsh words towards him. On KBS Entertainment Weekly aired on 26th December and a year-end star questionnaire was conducted with KBS Broadcasting Culture Research Institute and the 2 were voted the most active entertainers of the year.

Lee SeungGi emerged #1 with 20.3% votes with both his drama SBS ‘Brilliant Legacy’ and also participation in filming of KBS '2Days1Night' achieving as high as 70% viewerships on his TV appearance, also he has received acknowledge for his vocal capabilities.

Ranked at #2 is group 2PM, who went through the case of leader JaeBum leaving the group with 19.9% votes, and MC Yoo JaeSeok voted at #3 with 19.4% votes, #4 goes to MC Kang Ho Dong with 9.3% votes and Kim MyungMin who recently lost 20kg for his movie 'My Love By My Side' is at #5 with 8.2%.

Robert Holly's son Hah Jae-ik (16) revealed that he used his fathers name to enter Kara's performance.

This was revealed on the December 26th broadcast of SBS 'Star Junior Show', during the corner 'Mom Dad, I'm sorry about what I did this year', and while the stories were being shared about this topic, he shyly said "I like Kara".

He said "Kara came to perform at Kwangju, which is where I live" and "My friends and I thought of a plan" and explained about it. He continued to say "I told the scary bodyguard 'Hello, I'm Holly's son. I came because of my dads chore, can I go in?'" and "And without any suspicion, he just let me in".

Robert Holly responded "Just what could Holly have given Kara as a chore?" and made the audience laugh.

Famous MC Kang Ho Dong has hit gold again at this year's KBS Entertainment Awards.

Last year was an all time high for the plus size MC when he received the Best Entertainer award, but he has managed to hold on onto his crown this year!

Although he had to compete with long-time friend/colleague/heavyweight (no pun intended) Yoo Jae Suk, Kang Ho Dong pulled through with his role in "1 Night 2 Days."

In his acceptance speech, Kang Ho Dong apologized to his close friend Yoo Jae Suk and also thanked his mentor Lee Gyung Gyu. "It was 15 years ago. Lee Gyung Gyu said, 'I'm going to take responsibility for your shows. If you fail, I fail.'"

Kang Ho Dong has been all over the place this year, MC'ing for shows such as "Strong Heart" on SBS and "Golden Fishery" on MBC and this might be the first of many as we count down the year in the next couple of days.

Just like any major event in Korea, k-pop was a must have at the awards.

Invincible Youth group G7 performed a song while idol groups like 2PM and Brown Eyed Girls also added color to the ceremony with their own hit tracks.

I was hoping someone out there who'll be so kind enough to post the whole show. especially the whole opening cause I wanna see MY TOP 3 FAVE Idol groups together which are KAT-TUN, Tohoshinki, and Big Bang!.Imagining them to be in the same stage is not enough!..I want to see them..I've watched some of the videos that were alredy posted earlier which includes their performances and talk cuts. But I'm not contented with just that.

On January 14, 2009, solo artist Taegoon made his debut with Call Me, calling the attention of many with his hot music video that starred TVXQ's Jaejoong and actress Park Shin Hye. Since then, Taegoon has released three albums, charmed his way into many fans' hearts both in Korea and overseas, and been dubbed the "2nd Rain" for his dance skills.

A year and two days after Taegoon's debut, Mnet will be airing My Name is Taegoon, a feature documentary with interviews, MVs, live performances from his performance at Sanrio Puroland (Japan) and other exclusive footage from Taegoon's career over 2009. The documentary trilogy will be broadcast on Friday's over a three-week period on on January 16, January 23 and January 30.

KAT-TUN's Akanishi Jin makes his silver-screen debut in 2010 as the lead singer of an early 90s rock band called LANDS in the film Bandage directed by renowned music producer Kobayashi Takeshi. In addition to collaborating for the film, Akanishi formed the project unit LANDS with Kobayashi to release the movie theme song Bandage, which topped the charts with first-week sales of over 200,000! The single is just a teaser though for the real show in January which sees the release of the movie and the LANDS mini-album Olympos. The album contains six songs that Natsu (Akanishi Jin's character) performs in the movie plus two new songs specially composed for the album by Kobayashi for a total of eight tracks.

Oh, this makes me SO happy. Lee Jung-jae (Typhoon, Oh Brothers) has been cast as the husband in the highly anticipated remake of classic Korean film The Housemaid, putting him in the middle of a confrontation between veteran actress Jeon Do-yeon and rising star Seo Woo.

The remake of the 1960 dark psychological thriller had initially attracted notice when casting Jeon Do-yeon (Secret Sunshine) as the housemaid who upends the lives of a married couple, then again stirred buzz when adding Seo Woo (Tamra the Island). In the original, the spouses are middle-aged and the maid is younger than the husband she seduces. However, this remake is taking a modern spin in casting Jeon as an older femme fatale who is brought in to work for a younger couple. (I say “older” but it hardly means she’s old; it’s just in relation to the original film. Jeon is 36, the same age as Lee, while Seo Woo is 24.) Still, even if the plot remains intact, this reversal does significantly alter the politics of the three-way relationship, and ought to make for some interesting shifts in dynamic.

I had heard rumors that Lee might be cast, but was not getting my hopes up in case those were just rumors. But with three really strong actors, a strong director, and source material that’s widely considered the best from the golden age of Korean cinema, well, expectations are climbing.

The Housemaid will begin filming next month and release in 2010.

The 2 were heading to the recording room to record their duet song ‘We Fell In Love’ and were talking about one of the interviews they did on the show.

GaIn said, “You said you would normally imagine having skinship with me? And that you would feel excited when you put your arm around me? What kind of imagination were you at?”. And Jo Kwon answered, “We are a married couple, I can’t even imagine?”

With that GaIn said, “I thought you are innocent and pure, but you are just like other men.” And Jo Kwon later revealed in his individual interview, “I’m also a man, am I not the same as the others? She says this only to me.”

Photos of BEAST members sleeping in bed at their dormitory have been revealed online. While the members looked charismatic with their powerful dance performances on stage, they had looked cute while fast asleep in bed.

A staff said, “Those were photos taken for fun at their dorm. To show a different side of charms to BEAST.”

Meanwhile, BEAST will be holding their first fanmeeting for 3000 fans coming 5th January. It was initially set for 500 fans to attend but with 5000 fans applying for the fanmeeting, the company had to change plans to have 3000 lucky fans attend the fanmeet.

Last week, an employee from Coca Cola wrote on his blog that the company was going to use another male idol group (Shinhwa being the first) for an upcoming CF for Coca Cola. He said the reason they chose this group was because he'd seen them on variety shows and they had impressed him. Well, turns out this male idol group is 2PM!

They shot the CF this week and there's already some photos plus a behind-the-scenes Video:

Last week we brought you news on how Big Bang was invited to Music Station Super Live, which is one of Japan’s biggest end-year music shows and only the top Japanese artists are invited. This is the first time Big Bang attended and they put on a great show! This performance is from December 25th.
